Skeptical about 3 D TV? It is still too early to talk of its acceptance worldwide!!

Barry Fox, veteran electronics journalist and media pundit is skeptical about 3 D TVpopularity and its acceptance amongst the general public in UK. This trend has to be analyzed in greater detail for most digital TV providers are going big way in announcing 3D programmes.

Agreeing to the fact that people wish to own a 3D television to keep up with the relay of 3D programmes offered by most digital TV providers, but when most of these TV providers themselves declare that they have to yet keep up pace with the 3D technology which is still at a nascent stage.

With regards to conversion of 2D programmes to 3D programmes, television manufacturers such as Panasonic, Samsung and LG are presently capable of airing 3D programmes in half HD through their active shutter TVs. While Sky still needs to opt for HDMI Ver 1.4 connection which automatically switches over to 3D TV otherwise the viewers will have to manually switchover to 3D TV option.

The presently AV amps and receivers have not been updated with HDMI 1.4 and hence are not capable of decoding high resolution audio as well. According to information received Panasonic is providing both 1.3 and 1.4 connectors on its 3D players hardware, while others manufacturers such as Samsung have yet to do so. This again puts a feasibility question on how compatible will 3D boxes are with regards to 3D technology.

What could be the likely trend with reference to 3D TV, is that most pubs and restaurants could be where these 3D TV can be installed and enjoyed. Of course the places can demand a premium from their customers for airing these programmes which is exactly what digital TV providers want. But these very providers are not in a mood to encourage converter TVs which could change the entire scenario.
